Why Arsenal v Man City has been postponed tonight and when it is likely to be played

Arsenal's top-of-the-table clash with Manchester City was scheduled to go ahead tonight but the mouthwatering tie has been postponed.

The Gunners have enjoyed their best start to a top-flight season, winning nine out of 10 games so far to lead the Premier League table with a quarter of the campaign gone.

Manchester City are their nearest challengers, with Pep Guardiola's men sitting second, four points behind the Londoners after they lost to Liverpool 1-0 on Sunday.

The frontrunners were due to meet at the Emirates Stadium tonight, but the game is off.

Arsenal have been permitted to play their re-arranged Europa League fixture against PSV Eindhoven on Thursday instead.

The European match was meant to take place on September 15, but following The Queen's death it was postponed due to concerns over policing.

A statement from the Premier League said: “The Premier League has agreed with UEFA to postpone Arsenal FC’s Premier League match with Manchester City FC, originally due to be played on 19 October, to allow Arsenal FC’s rearranged UEFA Europa League game with PSV Eindhoven. Arsenal FC vs PSV Eindhoven, originally scheduled to be played on Thursday 15 September will now be played on Thursday 20 October 18:00."

The game is likely to be rearranged for the new year, with the schedule deemed too tight to play it before the World Cup.
