Two people have been arrested in connection with an alleged assault in a popular Cardiff park.
Part of Cardiff 's Roath Recreational Ground was cordoned off this afternoon while officers investigated the incident. One man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Videos on social media showed an air ambulance landing at the park earlier on Tuesday, March 15. Police officers were also spotted appearing to search through the park with sticks.
The cordon covered a section of the park adjacent to Ninian Road and Alder Road. The cordon has now been lifted. The alleged assault is thought to have taken place in the park, with the arrests occurring in the City Road area. A large police presence had earlier been reported on the busy street.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "Two men, aged 37 and 41, were arrested in the City Road area at lunchtime today on suspicion of an assault. A 41-year-old man has been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and an area of Roath Park Recreation Ground is cordoned off as part of the on-going investigation."
There was also a heavy police presence earlier today nearby City Road, and South Wales Police confirmed that this was linked to the alleged assault in the park. The arrests occurred in the City Road area.
Officers collected evidence from the area before removing the cordon at 1.50pm.
A spokesperson for the air ambulance said: “We can confirm the Wales Air Ambulance Charity helicopter attended the scene of an incident in the Cardiff area this morning. However, we were stood down on arrival.”
