Newcastle United fans have been advised a nationwide test of the Government's emergency alert system will be triggered during half-time of their Premier League clash with Tottenham. Eddie Howe's side will be looking to strike a decisive blow in the top-four race with victory over their nearest rivals.
The match was moved for television coverage for Sky Sports, with the contest getting under way at 2pm. Barring any major delays on the pitch, it means fans will likely receive the 3pm alert during the interval.
It is the first time the Government will test the new alert system, with tens of millions of mobile phones expected to receive the notification. Users should expect a message to inform them of a new service which will 'warn you if there's a life-threatening emergency nearby'.

The message is expected to last for around 10 seconds, and deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden has already assured people that they will be able to 'swipe away' the alert. The intention behind the upcoming trial is to get the public used to the new service, which will inform during crises such as extreme weather and fires.
Howe's side saw a run of five straight Premier League wins come to an end with a heavy defeat at Aston Villa last time out, and will be keen to get their unlikely top-four push back on track. Tottenham currently trail Newcastle by three points in the table, having played one match more.
