An ad for Sexyland aired during an episode of Paw Patrol on Network 10’s on-demand streaming service and that’s one way to get the kids’ attention. Their eyes probably jumped out of their heads like a Looney Tunes cartoon.
In case your understanding of both institutions is lacking, Sexyland is an adult shop which sells sex toys. Paw Patrol is a kid’s cartoon about anthropomorphised animals which are also emergency responders. See why this might be a bit of a whoopsie doodle?
The ad featured a naked woman lying under the sheets with a very fucking satisfied look on her face, possibly post-mazz, and a lass in a leather g-banger being pulled forward with a lead.
Dare I say it, but if children can watch an English Bulldog called Rubble moonlight as a construction worker and drive a bulldozer with a drill slapped on the front of it, they can also learn about the realities of sex. You’ve got to grow up at some point!
A parent in the Northern Territory, who seemingly did not agree with me, complained to the Ad Standards Community Panel. Per NT News, they said the Sexyland ads were “totally inappropriate and unacceptable” for the 8.30am and 7.30pm time slots, which should be wholesome and pure and family-friendly.
“It’s a kids program … what’s the relevancy of this advert?” the parent asked.
Please … don’t make me crack some sort of doggie style joke, unknown parent. I’m begging you.
“Young children should not be watching ads for stores that sells [sic] sex toys,” they continued.
“During the morning before 9am, I want to feel … assured that I don’t need to censor kids’ TV.”
The Ad Standards Community Panel said a “rare error” by 10 Play was probably to blame for the horny ad’s rogue appearance, and dismissed the complaint.
“[It was] not in the advertiser’s control and [is] unlikely to be repeated, especially now that the scheduler has been alerted,” the industry watchdog said, per news.com.au.
Sexyland said it didn’t know the ad had played during Paw Patrol and it always booked ad slots during its allocated naughty hours of 9.30pm to midnight.
A Network 10 spokeswoman confirmed to NT News that the ad was aired following a targeting-related boo-boo, and the network has tightened its “protections and processes to ensure this does not occur in the future”.
Thank God it’ll only be hideously animated pooches from here on out!
