Whoopi Goldberg returns as Guinan in ‘Star Trek: Picard’

Whoopi Goldberg is returning to the Final Frontier.

The official trailer out Friday for the upcoming second season of “Star Trek: Picard” revealed that the Oscar-winning actress is beaming back to the franchise for the first time since 1994.

Goldberg reprises her role as Guinan, a recurring role she played on “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” She later made an appearance in the feature film, “Star Trek Generations.”

The 66-year-old comedian has spent the last 15 years as a co-host on “The View.”

“Star Trek: Picard” debuted in early 2020 on the Paramount+ streaming service. Patrick Stewart reprised his role as Captain Jean Luc Picard.

Producers have remained quiet about Goldberg’s return to “Star Trek.” Stewart made an appearance on “The View” in Jan. 2020 to invite her back, but nothing was said about her involvement after that.

She isn’t the first “Next Generation” actor to make a surprise return to the long-running franchise. Other regulars from the series appeared in the first season, including Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis. Spiner also returns for the second season, but it’s unclear what role the actor will play this time around.

The new season debuts March 3, and also marks the return of another fan favorite character, Q, played by John de Lancie.

“Star Trek: Picard” also includes Jeri Ryan, who has returned to the franchise as Seven of Nine, a character she originated on “Star Trek: Voyager.”
