Wholesale fibre broadband operator invests £26m in Lanarkshire town's 'ongoing regeneration'

Britain's fastest-growing wholesale fibre broadband operator has announced it is investing £26m in Coatbridge to support the town's "ongoing regeneration".

Netomnia's full fibre multi-gigabit network will provide Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband infrastructure to around 87,500 premises in the town and its surrounding areas.

This expansion marks the operator's fifth rollout location in Scotland, delivering access to its "robust and reliable broadband network and helping to future-proof and diversify the local economy".

The full fibre network will be installed using existing underground ducting and infrastructure to minimise disruption and build swiftly.

Netomnia say the addition of an ultrafast and reliable network will "support the ongoing regeneration of Coatbridge, as the town continues to evolve and build on its deep industrial heritage".

Jeremy Chelot, CEO at Netomnia, told Lanarkshire Live : “I am incredibly pleased to continue expanding our network across the UK as we now enter our fifth location in Scotland.

"We believe that everyone should have access to reliable ultrafast broadband and Netomnia aims to deliver this.

"Our full fibre network will benefit the local economy and community and support the growth of prosperity in the region for years to come.”

Along with YouFibre, an internet service provider, Netomnia has secured £418m in funding since 2020 to support its rollout strategy and aims to reach one million premises next year.

Netomnia makes wholesale connectivity available to Internet Service Providers (ISPs), building the infrastructure for their broadband services.

Its network supports symmetrical (equal upload and download speeds) multi-gigabit services up to 10 Gbps (10,000 Mbps) using XGS-PON technology.

This means ISPs using Netomnia’s network will be able to offer their customers reliable ultrafast speeds for decades to come.
