Who won The Apprentice? Winner chosen by Lord Sugar as result branded 'obvious' by BBC viewers

After two months of competition and boardroom drama, The Apprentice came to an end on Thursday night, with Lord Alan Sugar naming his winner and new business partner.

And this year's champion candidate is Harpreet Kaur who beat Kathryn Burn in the final, in a result that some fans claimed was obvious before opening titles had even rolled. Millions of viewers tuned into BBC1 at 9pm for the last episode of the new series, having been delighted with the show's return, after it was put on hold for two year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Four became two at the end of The Apprentice semi final last week, when both Stephanie and Brittany were given their marching orders by Lord Sugar after the always gruelling interview round. Both Stephanie and Brittany were back on screen on Thursday as Kathryn and Harpreet were joined by fired contestants, including Amy Anzel, for their last task of the contest, with £250,000 up for grabs.

The final challenge tasked Kathryn and Harpreet with launching their own new businesses, complete with digital billboard and television advert. For Kathryn it was her own pyjama company, Pyjamily, while Harpreet focused on launching a new strand of her dessert business.

It wasn't plain sailing for either of them in the run up to the final boardroom of the series, with both some of Kathryn's team mates and viewers at home critical of her artwork for her brand. And, in the end it was Harpreet, owner of Barni's who won Lord Sugar's vote, with him choosing to invest in her business Oh So Yum.

A huge fan of Lord Sugar's decision, one Apprentice viewer took to Twitter to post: "Harpreet is the clear winner here. Been the best by miles the whole show." A second posted: "Harpreet the winner."

While also happy with the result, others said the outcome had been obvious for weeks, with one tweeting during the show to write: "The winner of #TheApprentice couldn’t be more clear cut. Hint: it’s not Kathryn." Another viewer reated: "Would have been a lot easier if they decided Harpreet was the winner 6 weeks ago."
