Who will win RB Leipzig vs Rangers? Our writers make their predictions for the Europa League semi final

The moment has arrived for Rangers in the Europa League.

A monumental semi-final first leg against RB Leipzig awaits as travelling fans descend on Germany with a dream of Seville in their hearts.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's side have disposed of Borussia Dortmund, Red Star Belgrade and Braga on their run to the last four and it's become clear they can take on anyone in this competition.

But the loss of Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and Aaron Ramsey to injury has presented Rangers with a tall order against the Bundesliga's in-form side.

Can the Ibrox men secure a result to take back to a raucous Ibrox next week?

Our writers make their predictions for the big one.

Andy Newport

The Germans have been in superb form ever since new boss Tedesco took over back in December. But they will be weakened by the loss of midfielder Kevin Kampl, and defenders Willi Orban and Mohamed Simakan to suspension and that could open the door for a Rangers team themselves depleted by injuries. A one-goal deficit would leave them with a great shot of making the final when they get the Germans back to a pumped up Ibrox.

The Ibrox side’s form in Europe is absolutely terrific and despite having no Morelos, Roofe or Ramsey, they can score in Germany to give themselves a real chance in the second leg. Obviously RB will carry a threat but Rangers are capable of returning with a draw and the hope of finishing the job next week.

Let’s keep a sense of perspective even though Rangers have entered a European utopia by getting this far. Leipzig could have them crashing back down to earth in 90 minutes tonight, especially given the players Van Bronckhorst will have to do without. It’s up to the manager to come up with a plan to keep the dream alive. A draw would be ideal but a narrow defeat will do so long as the second leg is still alive.

Rangers have performed superbly in Europe this season and a battling defensive display can get them back to Ibrox with a chance to go through.

Rangers are up against it with top level opponents and a depleted squad. But they still have the knack of hurting sides on the continent and will dig a goal out to keep the tie alive going back to Glasgow.

RB Leipzig 2 Rangers 1

No recognised striker and a top level opponent might just put this beyond Rangers on the night but the quality and desire they've shown on the continent this season should see them back to Ibrox with the final still very much within reach.
