Who will win Rangers vs Celtic? Our writers make their predictions for New Year cracker

It's the traditional slot but there hasn't been as many Ne'er derbies after the bells in recent years.

It's a fixture which doesn't need much to whet the appetite and the latest encounter between Rangers and Celtic will surely be another thrill ride. Michael Beale was a key component of Steven Gerrard's backroom team but he knows it's a different game facing off against the champions as the main man. Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou stressed the result will not change his side's approach towards title glory as a win would see them 12 clear.

But a rousing response from the hosts offers up a level of intrigue which has waned in recent months. But Celtic will be in no mood to slow down as they are undefeated in their last four league encounters with Rangers - winning three and scoring 10 goals in the process. Beale knows that level of success must be addressed.

It's prediction time and our writers have made their picks for the big one at Ibrox.

Rangers can kiss the title goodbye unless they take all three points tomorrow. But just because they need them, doesn’t mean they’ll get them. Celtic look too strong, too slick and too fast for Michael Beale’s side at this early stage in the new man’s reign. If the visitors score first it could be a long day for the Ibrox side.

Rangers 0 Celtic 2

Scott Burns

Rangers’ results have picked up under Michael Beale but this is the true acid test. Home advantage should help Rangers but I can still see Celtic having too much going forward.

Rangers 1 Celtic 2

Fraser Wilson

Rangers have no option but to go for the three points and at Ibrox will have Celtic on the backfoot on occasions but there’s a steeliness about this Hoops side that can see them ride the storm and make the most of their own spells of pressure. A point apiece and Celtic to edge a step closer to the title.

Rangers 1 Celtic 1

Michael Gannon

It should be a cracker with Rangers having a go and Celtic posing so much threat. The only thing guaranteed is there will be a million VAR checks and the game could crash through 100 minutes.

Rangers 2 Celtic 2

Gordon Parks

The barometer for the current Rangers side is how many would stake a claim to start for Celtic and it’s hard to make a case for anyone. The Champions have all of the class performers and deploy a system which is once again going to be too much for the Ibrox side to cope with. Michael Beale has his work cut out to come up with a plan to knock the leaders out of their stride but the fact remains that Celtic are loaded with attacking options and a midfield which can control this contest from start to finish.

Rangers 0 Celtic 2

Graeme Young

Celtic have secured a pair of thumping wins against Rangers on home turf but, perhaps, their champions streak was never more evident in their bruising 2-1 win last April to put themselves six points clear and tee up title glory. And that's why it's hard to go against the league leaders. Flair mixed with grit is a heady combination for Michael Beale to deal with in his first derby in the big chair. Expect thrills but the added quality from Ange Postecoglou's side to win out.

Rangers 1 Celtic 2
