Who will win Hearts vs Hibs? Our writers make their predictions for Scottish Cup semi final showdown

A stellar Scottish Cup semi-final weekend is finally upon us.

And it all kicks off with the Edinburgh Derby coming to Glasgow.

Hearts take on Hibs at Hampden for the right to play Celtic or Rangers in the final and it's bound to be a cracker.

These sides met just a week ago with Robbie Neilson getting the upper hand on Shaun Maloney as his side recorded a 3-1 win Premiership victory at Tynecastle.

But anything can happen in knockout competition and the Hibees will have revenge on their minds in Mount Florida.

Here, our writers deliver their predictions for the first of two monumental last four ties.

Keith Jackson

It's a sad indictment when a Hibs derby win would actually constitute a Scottish Cup shock. But that's the truth of the matter where the capital's noisy neighbours are concerned. Hearts are comfortably the third best team in the country and Maloney has a massive job on his hands pulling his side out of a serious slump. Logic dictates there can only be one winner.

I suspect this will closer than many predict because Hibs' pride will have been dented by their capitulation last week and Ryan Porteous' return will help them. But Hearts simply have a stronger, better team and will prevail.

Hearts were way too strong for Hibs seven days ago at Tynecastle and it’s tough to see Maloney’s team turning that around.

Neilson's side have been consistently effective all year while their Leith rivals still seem no nearer to clicking under Maloney. Hearts have already dumped Hibs from the top six and I reckon they will do for their Scottish Cup dreams too.

It’s hard to see past the Jambos as they look a much stronger unit than their Edinburgh rivals. Hibs can make a game of it but Neilson’s men will be resolute and they will carry the threat that will see them through.

Hearts 2 Hibs 0

Neilson's side seem to have the upper hand on their Edinburgh rivals just now. They had a convincing win in the league and I can see it being similar at Hampden. Hibs should be stronger with Ryan Porteous back but the concern is where will the goals come from.

Hearts 3 Hibs 1

Fraser Wilson

Hearts are stronger in every single department than Hibs and it showed last Saturday. Get their noses in front and there will be no stopping them. But even if Hibs score first I’d fancy Hearts to battle back much like last weekend. An exciting tussle nonetheless but with a familiar outcome for Edinburgh derbies at Hampden.

Hearts 3 Hibs 1

Graeme Young

Shaun Maloney appears confident Hibs can win, but that same belief seems to be in short supply among a vexed fanbase suffering derby blues. And Hearts often appear to have their rivals trapped in a psychological headlock when they lock horns at Hampden. Robbie Neilson's side proved last week they are capable of producing a level their rivals can only dream of.
