'Who's this?' Liz Truss mistaken for 'minor royal' during Queen's funeral by TV presenters

Liz Truss was mistaken for a 'minor royal' by Australian TV presenters as they failed to identify the new Prime Minister at the Queen's funeral.

The Conservatives leader was filmed getting out her official car before the service at Westminster Abbey.

As she stepped out with husband Hugh O'Leary, Channel 9 presenters Peter Overton and Tracy Grimshaw told viewers she could be a "local dignitary" or a "minor royal".

During the service Truss read the second lesson for mourners. It was taken from John 14, the lesson is one of comfort, evoking the promise of eternal life in Heaven.

As Truss emerged from her car Grimshaw said: "Who’s this?". Overton replied: "Hard to identify. Maybe minor royals? Members of the– I can’t identify them at this point."

Grimshaw added: "We can’t split everyone up unfortunately. They could well be local dignitaries, it’s hard to see.”

While Overton said: "I think we are now getting to the pointy end, as they say of the– I’m just told that was Liz Truss, the new prime minister, in the distance that we could see."
