Who is Chloe Kelly? The Lioness who seals Women's Euro 2022 glory for England

The youngest of seven siblings, Chloe Kelly was rarely seen without a ball at her feet as a child. The 24-year-old has credited her progression to her formative years playing street football with her five brothers.

Hailing from the capital, Chloe’s professional career began in 2015 when she played for Arsenal. However, first-team opportunities were hard to come by so she switched to Everton before finding permanent residence with Manchester City.

During her time at Everton, she scored nine goals in 12 games during the 2019-20 FA WSL season, which helped the club climb the table to sixth place. The London-born was named the league's Player of the Month and was shortlisted another month in the same year.

Chloe announced her two-year contract with Manchester City in July 2020 and shortly after was named the PFA WSL Team of the Year. The lioness continued thriving when she scored a brace against Tottenham Hotspur lifting the team to a 4–1 win.

Her commitment to football sparked during the team’s 3–1 loss to Chelsea a few days later when she converted a penalty kick in the 73rd minute for Manchester City's lone goal of the match. Sadly, disaster struck in 2021 when Chloe suffered an anterior cruciate knee ligament (ACL) injury.

Chloe’s knee injury

Chloe had scored twice in a 4-0 win against Birmingham in 2021, but was involved in a second-half collision with Rebecca Holloway, which saw her leave the pitch in a knee brace on a stretcher.

She sustained an ACL injury and was forced off the pitch for 11 months, which meant she missed out on the Olympics. Luckily she recovered in time to make the England Euro 2022 squad.
