Everyone is shipping his onscreen relationship, but who plays young Brimsley in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story?
The Bridgerton spinoff series, which premiered on Netflix on Thursday, May 4, may focus on the marriage between real-like monarch Queen Charlotte (played by India Amarteifio as a teen and Golda Rosheuvel as an adult) and King George III (Corey Mylchreest and James Fleet), but theirs isn't the only romance making hearts swoon.
That of Brimsley and Reynolds (Freddie Dennis), the royals' dedicated footmen, has proven to be a hit among viewers of the Bridgerton prequel. But who is the actor playing young Brimsley? Here's what we know about the rising star.
Who plays young Brimsley in 'Queen Charlotte'?
Young Brimsley is portrayed by British actor Sam Clemmett; the character in his later years is played by Hugh Sachs in both Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and the original Bridgerton series. The character of Brimsley is tasked with attending to the queen's every whim, literally walking five paces behind Her Majesty at all times. However, he does manage to sneak off from time to time for some clandestine lovin' from his paramour, Reynolds, who is King George's footman.
“I remember Hugh [Sachs, who plays older Brimsley in the series] saying when I met him at the read-through that people have been dying for a storyline like this,” Clemmett told Shondaland about the character. “And he was so happy it was finally here. I realized how much weight that this storyline would have when he said that to me.”
On portraying the romance between Brimsley and Reynolds, Clemmett told the outlet: "One of the things I realized the more we were doing it was this idea of how isolated in their roles they would have been; they don’t have anyone else to be themselves with other than each other. I found that very touching to play throughout, and the moments that we do get with one another, they mean so much. Whether it’s five minutes or 20 minutes, and it’s rarely any more than that, the stakes of that and what that means is fascinating to dive into."
Sam Clemmett movies and TV shows
Clemmett actually got his start acting on stage (more on that in a bit), but onscreen, you might recognize him from titles including the 2021 crime drama Cherry and the British war film The War Below. He made his television debut in 2013 with guest appearances in Foyle's War on ITV and Doctors on BBC One.
Was Sam Clemmett in 'Harry Potter'?
The Brit did not appear in the Harry Potter film franchise, but he is best-known for originating the role of Albus Severus Potter, Harry and Ginny's son, in the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He portrayed the character for three years both in the West End in London and later on Broadway in New York City. Fittingly, his Instagram profile says he's a "former wizard."
Sam Clemmett wife: is he married?
Sam Clemmett has been married to his wife Danarose Clemmett (né Lobue), a hair stylist and wig maker for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, since October 2022, after getting engaged in June of that year.
Sam Clemmett age: how old is he?
Born on October 1, 1993 in Brundall, Norfolk, England, Sam Clemmett is currently 29 years old. (Yes, that makes him a Libra.)
