Netflix ’s Heartstopper, based on Alice Oseman’s LGBTQ+ comic series, has melted many hearts.
Created and written by Oseman herself, the eight-episode series follows the blossoming love story between ‘gentle’ Charlie and ‘rugby-playing’ Nick in an all-boys grammar school in the UK.
Viewers were shocked when the Academy Award winner Olivia Colman appeared on the small screen in a recurring role as Nick’s mother Sarah Nelson as most of the supporting cast are newcomers.

Here’s everything you need to know about the star behind Heartstopper ’s Elle Argent.
Who plays Elle Argent in Heartstopper on Netflix?
Elle Argent, Charlie’s best friend, is played by Yasmin Finney, who at the start of the series moved from Truham Grammar School to Higgs School for Girls.
Finney, like her character Elle, is trans. In an interview with ReVamp magazine she shared: "Too many times we see cis people playing trans roles and taking away the opportunity and credit. I’m just so happy and thankful Alice saw the Elle in me."
Finney first went viral on TikTok, sharing her experience as a Trans woman growing up in Manchester, which has been watched more than twelve million times and she has more than two hundred and ninety thousand followers.
What else has Elle Argent actor been in?
This is Finney’s screen debut, though she has prior acting experience at The Sackville Theatre and has performed in popular theatrical productions including DNA, Antigone, Port and Page to Stage.
In terms of her future ambitions Finney would like to step into a cis role. “I would just love it if I could play a cis role and just tell a great story and not necessarily one that has to capitalise on my sexuality or gender orientation,” she told ReVamp.
“I think it’s important trans people get equal opportunity at the cis roles as well as the trans roles,” Finney added.
