Who is Yeremy Pino? The £67million-rated striker linked with Arsenal transfer

Arsenal are in need of a top-quality striker this summer following the decision to allow Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join Barcelona during the January transfer window.

football.london understands that the north London club are targeting players in key positions, including signing two new forwards, a central midfielder, with a backup right-back also potentially on the agenda.

Both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are into the final four months of their contracts at the Emirates Stadium and the Gunners have now been linked with a move for Villarreal starlet Yeremy Pino.

According to a report from El Desmarque, Real Madrid and Arsenal, as well as a host of other European sides, are interested in the young frontman.

Here, football.london details all you need to know about the teenager and what he would bring to Mikel Arteta's side if he did sign this summer.

Who is Yeremy Pino?

Aged just 19, Pino is a talented forward born in Las Palmas, Spain.

He is a versatile player, currently plying his trade with La Liga outfit Villarreal, often operating on the right-wing but also occasionally playing through the middle as a centre-forward.

Pino joined the Villarreal youth academy at the age of 15 and has since established himself as one of the club's most promising young talents.

What would he bring to Arsenal?

The talented teenager has a rare blend of pace, tricky dribbling and composed finishing, helping him attract plenty of attention across Spain and even making his international debut for Luis Enrique's side last year.

Pino displays maturity far beyond his years and became the youngest Spanish player to start a major European final after helping the Yellow Submarines defeat Manchester United in last season's UEFA Europa League final.

He attracted plenty of headlines last month after starring in a 5-1 win against Espanyol, a match in which he scored four times as he demonstrated just how clinical he can be against the Barcelona-based club.

Pino also possesses the ability to work hard off the ball, something that Arsenal boss Arteta demands in his forwards.

The Spaniard has averaged 2.31 blocks, 1.63 tackles and 1.19 interceptions per game in the league this season and often shows a similar work rate to Gunners youngster Gabriel Martinelli, who is often applauded by fans for his pressing off the ball.

Pino, who reportedly has a £67million release clause in his contract, is typically utilised on the right-wing but has also been used as a central striker this term and the idea of him alongside the likes of Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard would certainly be a mouthwatering prospect for the Arsenal faithful if he did sign for the north Londoners.

What has been said?

Villarreal's Under-23s assistant coach Nando Martinez has spoken extremely highly of the youngster, heaping praise on his attitude to developing his game.

“Yeremy stands out for his character,” Martinez explained to El Pais.

“The more difficult the challenge, the more able he is to demonstrate his potential.

“He maintains the essence of when he played on the street as a child. In addition, he lives for football, and every day ensures he has the right complementary training, nutrition and rest.

“Yeremy has been, and is, a blessing for his coaches.”
