Pro Football Focus recently set out to select each NFL team’s “secret superstar” from the 2024 NFL season. So, who did they select for the Jacksonville Jaguars?
Bradley Locker, who put this recent article together for PFF and made these selections, went with linebacker Devin Lloyd.
“On a Jaguars defense that was one of the worst in the NFL, he did his part with a 76.7 PFF overall grade, including an 84.2 run-defense mark and a microscopic 4.5% missed tackle rate,” wrote Locker.
As locker noted, Lloyd was an incredibly sound tackler, making 106 of his 111 tackle attempts this season. That, of course, resulted in him being a very reliable run defender.
Among eligible linebackers who played at least 100 defensive snaps in 2024, Lloyd ranked ninth in PFF’s run defense grade.
In coverage, Lloyd’s tackling ability helped to mostly limit yards after the catch opportunities. He also came away with one pass breakup and an interception.
Lloyd was also quite efficient when asked to blitz, generating 10 pressures on only 29 pass rush snaps, including two sacks.
Lloyd has developed into an all-around solid contributor to the Jaguars’ defense at the linebacker position. PFF would also add that over the last two seasons of play, Lloyd ranks seventh among linebackers in wins above replacement (WAR), making him one of the more productive players at the position during that span.
