If your TikTok For You Page has been flooded with videos of an American woman making outrageous demands in Pakistan, you’re not alone. Meet Onijah Andrew Robinson, the 33-year-old New Yorker whose chaotic journey from online romance to viral sensation has captivated millions.
Here’s the full and incredibly bonkers story.
Why did the viral American lady go to Pakistan?
In October 2024, Onijah boarded a flight to Karachi with one goal: to marry Nidal Ahmed Memon, a 19-year-old she’d met on Facebook.
According to Arab News, the pair connected online after Nidal stumbled onto her profile. It reportedly featured heavily edited photos, sparking accusations of potential catfishing
But reality hit hard when she landed. Nidal’s family allegedly rejected the union, and some reports claim the teenager never even showed up to meet her.
“She was only supposed to go to Pakistan to meet him and his family on vacation,” her son Jeremiah Robinson later said, per a video posted by Viral Verse.
Why didn’t she go back to America? (And what are her demands?)
You’d think the existence of shows like 90 Day Fiance and Catfish would mean she’d cut her losses and get TF out of there – but oh no, Onijah dug in
She reportedly camped outside Nidal’s family apartment for 30 hours, even as his family vacated the property and locked the doors.
Then came the press conferences.
In one clip shared on TikTok she declared: “I’m asking for $100k, and I need $20k in cash by the end of this week. That’s my demand from the government. Pakistan needs new buses, taxis, and cars.”
But, narrowing down what her exact demands is a little difficult because her requests have been shifting daily. Sometimes she demanded $3,000 weekly, other times $5,000 upfront.
When a reporter asked what her plan was, she simply said, “It’s none of your business.”
At one point, she claimed she’d “rebuild the entire country” while insisting she was already married to Nidal.
“Make sure you get this on your camera: I’m married to Nidal Ahmed Memon. We’re moving to Dubai soon and having our baby there,” she said in a press conference.
When she was referred to as an American in the press conference, Onijah quickly shut that notion down, saying she was from Pakistan.
“Respect to the law, respect for the law, respect for Allah and respect for God. Do you hear me?” Onijah said.
Local authorities, NGOs, and even Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori offered to fly her home for free. Onijah has refused every time.
TikTok’s reaction to Onijah Robinson
The internet can’t look away from this hot mess. TikTok is flooded with edits of Onijah’s press conferences and sit-ins as netizens wait to see the next update in this saga. Users are split between those praising her audacity, calling her an “icon” for demanding cash with confidence that I dream of, and others are just impressed with Pakistan’s patience and hospitality.
One viral comment noted: “This changed how I see Pakistanis completely. The grace they’ve shown her is unheard of.”
Where is Onijah Robinson now?
According to Express News,Onijah has reportedly been admitted to Karachi’s Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for mental health assessments. Her son Jeremiah confirmed she has bipolar disorder and urgently needs treatment in the U.S.
Ramzan Chhipa is the philanthropist who stepped in when Onijah was initially rejected by her teenage lover and set up the press conferences. He pleaded publicly for Nidal to meet her: “If you’re listening, come resolve this respectfully. She left her family for you.”
Speaking of, there has been no updates on who is looking after Onijah’s kids in the US while all of this has been happening.
In an unexpected twist, Dialogue Pakistan reports a man from Thatta has proposed to Onijah. Because why not?
After months of refusal, Onijah reportedly accepted a flight arranged by authorities. But details remain fuzzy — some claim she’s already en route, while others say she lingered at a charity shelter. Only time will tell what Onijah ends up doing next.
