Chris Stapelton will be singing the national anthem ahead of Super Bowl LVII, but before that, Sheryl Lee Ralph will open things up with “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
The singer and actress started her career in the 70s and eventually found herself on Broadway as Deena Jones in the musical “Dreamgirls.” The role earned her a Tony Award nomination and she has had a fruitful career since.
She currently plays school teacher Barbara Howard on ABC’s Abbott Elementary, and she won an Emmy in 2022 for her role in the hit sitcom. The series is set in Philadelphia and she is also married to Pennsylvania state senator Vincent Hughes in real life, leaving little doubt about who she is rooting for.
