Who is Sian Welby? Meet the new host on This Morning

Radio presenter Sian Welby has been announced as the new co-host on This Morning following Holly Willoughby’s exit.

The radio star, who is currently the host of Capital Breakfast alongside Roman Kemp and Chris Stark, is previously known for her work on the BBC, Channel 5 and ITV. The show has been searching for presenters to replace Holly Willoughby, who announced her departure from the show last October.

At the time, Willoughby said: “To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so so much. This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we've done together. Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you.”

Welby has made previous appearances on the show as a showbiz reporter and will now be taking on the role of co-host, presenting alongside Dermot O’Leary.

Who is Sian Welby?

Born in Nottingham, Welby is a TV and radio presenter best known for her work on Channel 5, BBC, ITV and Channel 4. She embarked on her presenting career at 19, while still working part-time as a retail assistant. She was scouted by former Channel 5 owner Richard Desmond who spotted her in New! magazine. Soon after, Welby became the new face of Channel 5 News.

The 37-year-old previously hosted her own national radio show on Heart every Monday to Thursday, before she took over the Sunday morning breakfast show on the radio station. In 2020, she became part of the Capital Breakfast show. In 2021, Welby beat the current Guinness World Record for the most sounds recognised in a minute, in a celebration of her first anniversary on Capital.

She joined O’Leary on Monday morning as she made her debut appearance on the show. On Instagram, Welby said: “I’m never gonna forget today. What an incredible whirlwind.”

“Huge thanks to Dermot and the This Morning team for looking after me from start to finish. Yes i was absolutely bricking it, but I felt so welcome and supported by the team that it made it such a fun experience. I still can’t believe I actually did it,” she added.
