Who is Sausage on The Masked Singer? Clues and theories - from Sheridan Smith to Joss Stone

It's the question that has plagued Masked Singer fans since time began - or, well, er the second series began on Boxing Day - who is Sausage?!

Clues have been peppered throughout the episodes and some eagle-eyed fans reckon they've cracked it.

But have they? Here are all the clues from every week and the fan theories about the celebrity identity...

Clues:

• "I might look a bit of a tomboy, but I really am a girly girl."
• "I love a bit of glam, but that doesn't mean I can't have fun, and to be honest I'm a bit of a silly sausage, and to be honest I just want to have a laugh."
• "The thing with sausages is that they can be gourmet or they can be no nonsense, and I'm definitely a bit of the latter. I don't mind speaking my own mind and following my own path, but ultimately I love a bit of the simple life."

Masked Singer's Sausage's identity has left viewers baffled (ITV)

Theories:

Sheridan Smith has been the frontrunner for fans as Sausage's true identity for weeks.

The actress and musical theatre star, 39, has been able to change her voice for various singing roles, including ITV drama series Cilla and West End show Legally Blonde.

But fans were thrown off at the weekend after hearing the singer perform on rival BBC show on Sunday, which left some convinced that it wasn't her after hearing her true voice.

Another name that has popped up is Stacey Solomon after hearing the accent in her voice.

Fans also reckon the clue pertaining to her being told she "looks like a horse" could be referencing Stacey.

A newer name that has popped up, however, is Joss Stone who - like Sheridan - is famous for changing her accent after adopting a faux-American drawl.

Sausage has also mentioned a link to royalty, which could be a nod to her being on the Royal Variety.
