Who is Ross Enamait? All you need to know about Katie Taylor's boxing coach

Katie Taylor has become a household name across the world throughout her record breaking boxing career.

The 'Bray Bomber' has won all 22 of her bouts and is one of only eight boxers, male of female, to have held all four world titles - WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO - at the same time. She also had a dazzling amateur career with a gold Olympic medal and five consecutive gold medals at the Women's World Championships.

British boxer Chantelle Cameron is hoping to break Katie's unbeaten streak on Saturday night in Dublin's 3Arena. Chantelle will offer strong competition as currently the world champ in two weight classes.

And one man that has been in Katie's corner since she turned pro is Ross Enamait. Despite Katie's global fame, Ross is relatively unknown.

He is a fitness expert and boxing coach from America who regularly posts tough-looking workout videos online. Taylor moved over to Connecticut to train with him shortly after the 2016 Olympics, where she lost to Finland's Mira Potkonen in the quarter-finals.

The Games came just months after the 2012 gold medallist dropped her father Pete as her coach. Speaking to Boxing Monthly years ago about how he came to coaching Taylor, Enamait explained: “As far as Katie coming over, she had some of my books to read in the amateurs.

"That’s one of the reasons why she first contacted me; we first linked up after the Olympics. I didn’t know much about women’s boxing when she contacted me, I had heard of her but I hadn’t ever seen her fight.

"So I started off with just giving her some advice but she was persistent, eager, she really wanted to come over for a camp. I was looking at it from the standpoint that if someone’s willing to fly halfway around the world to train they must be pretty serious."

He added: “I didn’t know she was turning pro, she didn’t know she was turning pro. We were just trying to work together to try and work out a few things. From the get-go, we worked well together and she flew back after the three weeks.

“We had a situation where she had a tough time training herself in the amateurs and I think a lot of people had written her off. People were talking s*** online when she first turned pro, people [were] saying she should’ve turned pro after 2012. They don’t have a lot to say right now though!

“She met with Eddie Hearn and decided she was done with the amateurs and wanted a fresh start, she was back [in America] the week after. She made her debut that November.”

Taylor's career has gone from strength to strength since and she is set for the biggest fight in the history of women's boxing later this year against Amanda Serrano.

She has previously described Enamait as "really old school" in terms of his coaching techniques and said that they do "nothing fancy during training".

She explained: "We do a lot of body weight exercises, press ups and chin ups. We do a lot of the sledge hammer on the tyre, and stuff like that.

"My coach is actually really old school, we do nothing fancy during training. We do bench presses as well as squats. Those are the things that never go out of fashion."

But speaking to the BBC years ago, Taylor stressed just how key Enamait has been to her success.

She said: "I feel like I'm working with one of the best coaches in the world right now in Ross Enamait.

"The work he's put in with me over the last few months, that's confidence in itself. Trust and confidence in the coach is absolutely everything I think.

"I have a very small team, but it's definitely a solid team. They do absolutely everything for me. This week, I only have to focus on the fight itself.

"It's so important to surround yourself with the right people, especially in this sport, because boxing can be a dark world at times."
