After six long months, Love Island is finally back on our screens with a winter season.
While the UK public is stuck with cold days and dark nights, lucky singletons will be heading to sunny South Africa for the ITV reality TV show.
Among the islanders looking for love in the villa is Ron Hall, who describes himself as “fun and charismatic”.
He’s also the first partially sighted contestant to enter the villa.
So what do we know about Ron Hall and what can we expect to see from him on Love Island?
Who is Ron Hall?
Ron Hall is a 25-year-old financial advisor from Essex.
Ron opened up to ITV about the football accident that left him partially sighted when he was just eight years old.
The Love Island contestant said: “When the ball came over, I went down to head the ball and [another player] went up with his foot, basically knocked me out and detached my retina.”
He underwent a number of operations before doctors told him his sight wouldn’t return.
The injury also caused Ron to feel extreme pain for years and was particularly affected by sunlight, until the age of 19.
But the injury hasn’t held Ron back. He said: “In terms of how it’s impacted my life, I’ve always used it to my advantage. I always say, ‘There are so many people who are worse off than me’.
“It doesn’t impact me as much as someone else. So you have to look at the positive side of things.”
He added: “And, if anything, losing something like that makes you realise that. It’s not hindered me in any shape or form. It’s a good conversation starter, I must admit.”
On what we can expect to see from him in the villa, Ron said he’s “fun and charismatic” and added: “I’m the most genuine person you’ll meet. I’m genuine, caring, and I’m a nice person - which you don’t find these days.”
Looking forward to the Love Island villa, Ron said: “I just want to be naturally myself in there, have good times, and make memories. I think people will enjoy my company.”
Love Island begins at 9pm on Monday, January 16, on ITV2 and ITVX.
