Scott Mills is a legendary host of his famous Radio 1 show, having joined the popular station in 1998. Mills is also known for being a DJ, television presenter and occasional actor.
Mills is switching over to Radio 2 where he will take over Steve Wright’s early afternoon slot, and his last ever show for Radio 1 will take place on Thursday, August 25.
Meanwhile, in his love life sparks are flying between Mills and his partner Sam Vaughan, his partner of four years, after announcing their engagement in October 2021.
Alongside Mills’ exit, radio personality and co-host Chris Stark is also leaving the BBC, having joined in 2012, and is set to join Global’s Capital radio.
Why is Scott Mills leaving Radio 1?
Scott Mills announced he was switching over to Radio 2, after Steve Wright confirmed he would be stepping down from daytime radio in September.
He said: "Time actually does fly when you’re having fun, and that’s certainly been the case over the past 24 years at my beloved Radio 1. The station I pretended to be on in my bedroom from the age of six. The station I told my mum I wanted to work at, but never in a million years thought I would."
Mills remains in the BBC but will be terribly missed by all Radio 1 fans, with many expressing their grief. One fan wrote: "Not Scott Mills leaving radio one devastating."
Another commented: "Can I chain myself to a door in Radio One to make them keep you? I’m just so gutted you’re leaving," with a third adding "@scott_mills is leaving?!?!?! Well, that has ruined my Friday evening; he was the best thing on radio one."
Who is replacing Scott Mills?
Dean McCullough and Vicky Hawkesworth have been announced as the replacements for Scott Mills and Chris Stark.
Some memorable moments throughout Mill’s career with Radio 1 have been his innuendo bingos, a game where people spit water in each other's faces.
The bromance between Scott and Chris is one of the most tragic losses for Radio 1, their chemistry will be truly missed as Chris states: "To wake up every day over the last 10 years and get to work with one of my best friends on a show I love is a dream come true."
Scott and Chris have also raised money for Comic Relief in 2021 with a ‘LOL-a-thon’ and ended up raising £500,000. Stars including Little Mix and KSI revealed their hysterical childhood moments.
