Who is Rafael Leao? AC Milan star linked with summer transfer to Mikel Arteta's Arsenal

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing AC Milan's Rafael Leao this summer.

Having found the net 10 times in 27 appearances across all competitions, the Portuguese star has attracted interest from some of Europe's top clubs, including Arsenal who are looking to strengthen their forward line in the coming months.

With Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah seemingly set to follow Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang through the exit door in the summer, there's likely to be enough space for at least two new strikers at the Emirates Stadium.

Several players have consequently been linked with a move to Mikel Arteta's new look side, and Leao is the latest of those, with reports suggesting the Gunners would like to make a move for him in the summer.

According to Fichajes, via the Sun, the Gunners hope to secure a deal to land Leao when the transfer window reopens.

There's not yet anything concrete out there to suggest that a move is likely, but with reports suggesting an interest is likely, football.london has taken a look at who Arsenal may end up signing.

Born in Almada to Angolan parents on 10 June 1999, Leao is a product of Sporting CP's academy. He became the club's youngest ever goalscorer in 2018, but following an incident where players and staff were reportedly attacked in training, he quit the Portuguese outfit.

The 22-year-old signed for Lille on a five-year deal in the summer of that year, and following a breakout season with the club - where the French side finished second in Ligue 1 behind Paris Saint-Germain - he made a big money move to Serie A giants Milan.

French football journalist Julien Laurens dubbed him the 'Portuguese [Kylian] Mbappe' before moving to Italy, and although he hasn't hit the heights of the Frenchman just yet, he's certainly one to keep an eye on in the future.

Leao, who usually operates as a left-winger but can also play centrally as a No.9, has been progressing well since then, and his form has earned him three international caps with the Portugal national team.
