Who is Noussair Mazraoui? The Ajax star that could be set for transfer to Arsenal this month

Arsenal have been handed a major boost in this month's transfer market, with reported target Noussair Mazraoui confirming he is set to leave Ajax.

The Moroccan right-back has six months remaining on his contract with the Dutch club and now looks set to part company over the coming days, or at the end of the season.

The Gunners have been linked with Mazraoui over recent weeks and will no doubt be boosted by his stance over his future.

But just who is Mazraoui and why should Arsenal make a move for him this month, or perhaps in the summer transfer window?

Having joined Ajax as an eight-year-old, Mazraoui is a product of the club's prestigious academy but his time with the Dutch giants appears to be coming to an end.

When he was asked by Dutch media on his plans for next season, Mazraoui said, via The Sun: "That's a good question. I think the chances of me remaining at Ajax are very small, maybe 5%.

"I am open for something new, I have played here for 16 years and I think it's a good moment to leave."

The 24-year-old has made 125 appearances for Ajax and is handy in attack, scoring five goals in 16 Eredivisie games this season. He has also found the net once in 12 appearances for Morocco.

It is a transfer that appears to make a lot of sense from an Arsenal perspective on paper. While Tomiyasu has proven to be a revelation at full-back this season, he perhaps lacks the explosive attacking edge that has won the likes of Reece James so many plaudits this season.

Mazraoui would fill that gap and offer a different dimension to a Gunners attack that has been underwhelming on multiple occasions this season.

His contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena is set to expire in the summer and he is likely to be an appealing option on a free transfer, with Leeds United and Roma both monitoring the player as well.
