Celtic winger Mikey Jonston has declared for the Republic of Ireland after talks with Stephen Kenny over the winter.
The Glaswegian is currently on loan at Portuguese side Vitoria Guimareas and is understood to have gone through the process of switching his international allegiance.

Who is Mikey Johnston?
Mikey Johnston was born in April 1999 and was brought up in Glasgow. He made his professional debut for Celtic in 2017 in a 4-1 victory over St. Johnstone. He has cited Celtic as his boyhood club.
Johnston's career so far:
Johnston scored his first goal for the club in December 2018 in a 3-0 victory over Motherwell. A year later he scored his first European goal when he netted in Celtic's 3-0 win over Rennes in the Europa League and celebrated by signing a new five-year deal a few weeks later.
Injury woes
Unfortunately Johnston's career has been marred by various injuries which meant he missed most of the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou decided to loan Johnston out in order to progress his career. The Australian said: "There's definitely a talented footballer there, but sometimes you just need a different environment to help that happen."
Johnston was loaned out to Portuguese side Vitoria Guimareas in September 2022.
Loan move to Vitoria Guimareas
Johnston scored his first goal and brace for his new side in a 3-1 victory over CF Canelas 2010 in October 2022. His forst league goal came two weeks later in a 3-2 win against Famalicao. Prior to signing the loan deal he agreed to a one-year extension to his Celtic contract.
Republic of Ireland switch
The Glaswegian qualified to play for the country of his birth and played for them at both U19 and U21 level scoring four times. In March 2023 it was reported that he had switched his allegiance to the Republic of Ireland and qualifies to play for them as his grandparents are from Derry.
