Scottish teenager Luke Mitchell was just 14-years-old when he murdered his girlfriend Jodi Jones on a woodland path close to her home in 2003.
The brutal killing, which took place in 2003, saw Mitchell sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2005.
The case was used to back up an appeal to reduce the sentencing of
Campbell was sentenced to a minimum jail term of 27 years for the brutal rape and murder of the six-year-old schoolgirl on the Isle of Bute, last July.
Today, the teenage killer had his minimum sentence slashed by three years.
At the Edinburgh court last month, Campbell's lawyers used the Luke Mitchell case to back up the appeal.
His advocate Brian McConnachie QC told the Court of Criminal Appeal that the sentence imposed was excessive given his young age.
But who exactly is Luke Mitchell ?
Mitchell attended St David's High School in Dalkeith, the same school as girlfriend Jodie Jones and the two starting dating.
Mitchell and Jodi were both just 14 when the crime which shocked Scotland was committed on a woodland path near their homes in Midlothian.
He tied her hands together and slashed her throat, almost severing her head.
He then stripped Jodi naked and left mutilating knife injuries on her face, breast, abdomen and tonsils.
The appalling wounds were similar to those inflicted on 1940s Hollywood starlet Elizabeth Short-known as the Black Dahlia.
Mitchell was a fan of goth-rocker Marilyn Manson who produced paintings based on gruesome morgue photos of Short.
Suspicion fell on Mitchell after he discovered Jodi's body behind a wall in a wooded area during a search. Her family told how Mitchell and his dog joined their hunt for the missing teen and almost immediately found her mutilated body.
Prosecutors said his knowledge of where to look indicated his guilt. However, Mitchell said that his pet led him to the spot.
He was then found guilty of the schoolgirl's slaying in January 2005 despite a lack of DNA evidence and was sentenced to a minimum of 20 years behind bars.
Mitchell has launched several unsuccessful attempts to appeal his conviction.
