Knitting sparked a whole host of wild theories from viewers of The Masked Singer, within seconds of them appearing on screen as the new series started on New Year's Day and they were ack of action on Saturday night.
It's now been close to three years since the zany guessing game made its debut on ITV, making winners of the likes of Nicola Roberts, Joss Stone and last year's champion Natalie Imbruglia as Panda.
After another series of The Masked Dancer in the summer, The Masked Singer was back for a new run on New Year's Day. with Joel Dommett once again on hosting duties and Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan. The first episode saw a series of face offs involving different characters and the first to appear was Knitting, And, as well as being rather concerned about how hot they'd be in the costume under the studio lights, viewers were quick to flood Twitter with their guesses.

Knitting's clue package including a declaration about her being a 'bit crafty,' the year 2002 on the bottom of their shoes and a magpies. The latter two clues saw many Masked Singer fans take a punt at Knitting being Cheryl, given that she is of course from Newcastle and 2022 was the year she shot to fame on Popstars: The Rivals. Knitting's talking voice had others sure it was Helen Skelton hiding behind the mask, with the 'crafty' line a nod to her time as a Blue Peter presenter.
Other early guesses for Knitting included Queens of Crafting Stacey Solomon and Sara Davies; Steps star Claire Richards, with fans certain they heard flashes of her famous vocals and even Kylie Minogue.
Going for Cheryl, one viewer tweeted: "Knitting - Cheryl?? Remember reading somewhere she was into knitting, the magpie would represent Newcastle, 2002 on the shoes is when she was on Popstars:The Rivals…" In agreement, a second reacted: "Knitting is Cheryl Cole."
Guessing at Strictly finalist Helen, another posted: "Knitting has to be Helen Skelton," with someone else sharing the same view, tweeting: "Fairly confident that Knitting is Helen Skelton."
And, sure it was Claire from Steps in the knitting costume, another commented: "Yeah Knitting is Claire from Steps 100%" The magpie clue could also apply to Claire; being a nod to Steps hit One For Sorrow, with 2002 the year she and H broke away from Steps to become H & Claire.
