Who is Jonas Wind? Wolfsburg's next 'Edin Dzeko' profiled amid dream Arsenal transfer admission

Wolfsburg striker Jonas Wind has named Arsenal as his dream transfer destination in a recent interview.

Wind is following in the footsteps of Premier League winner Edin Dzeko after joining the Bundesliga outfit from FC Copenhagen in January. The 23-year-old registered six goal contributions in 14 appearances for Wolfsburg in the second half of last term with the Danish striker being considered an exciting prospect for the future.

Arsenal signed Gabriel Jesus in the summer transfer window after Alexandre Lacazette's return to Lyon on a free transfer with the Brazilian impressing since arriving from Manchester City in a £45million deal. The Gunners need a strong squad throughout the 2022/23 campaign due to the sheer volume of fixtures in a short space of time as they target a strong performance in the Europa League and Premier League.

But what kind of player is Wind and where could he fit in at the Emirates Stadium if Arsenal were to sign the Danish forward? football.london takes a closer look at the player's profile and best attributes below.

Who is Jonas Wind?

At just 23-years-old, Wind is a talented striker born in Hvidovre, Denmark.

The Denmark international has scored four goals in just 12 appearances for his country and sealed a move to Wolfsburg in the January transfer window after a stellar first half to the 2021/22 season with Copenhagen, including four goals in five appearances in the UEFA Conference League. At 6ft 3ins tall, he represents a different threat to the likes of Jesus and Eddie Nketiah and if the Gunners were to sign him, he would represent a smart alternative for Mikel Arteta.

What could Wind offer Arsenal?

Arsenal have a quick, nimble attack but no real threat in the air. Wind is a clinical striker that has different physical attributes to that of Jesus and Nketiah which could allow Arteta to be more flexible with his attacking set-up.

The 23-year-old registered 71 goal contributions in just 114 games for Copenhagen before securing a £10million move to Wolfsburg and has since scored five in 15 appearances for the German outfit. Wind's stats highlight his ability to contribute with goals and assists, whilst his age fits in with Arsenal's transfer strategy of signing young, experienced talents that can develop further and make an impact at the Emirates Stadium.

The Danish striker has been compared to Edin Dzeko after the former Manchester City man used to also play for Wolfsburg, as well as having comparisons to Sebastien Haller from his Eintracht Frankfurt days due to his phsyical stature and finishing ability.

How would Wind fit in?

Wind could be utilised as a lone striker, rotating with Jesus to keep the attack fresh due to the sheer amount of fixtures coming thick and fast in the 2022/23 season. Alternatively, the Gunners' boss could look to play a two-man attack with Jesus playing off of Wind to throw opposition teams off with a tactical switch.

The 23-year-old can also play as a no.10 if required due to his impressive technical ability for a tall forward. Wind scored 16 goals and registered a further seven assists in 42 appearances in all competitions last term showing he can provide goals and assists for his team.

What has been said?

Wind openly admitted in a recent interview with Bulinews.com that he dreams of a move to the Emirates Stadium later in his career. The Denmark international said: "If we look into the future, Arsenal would be a dream destination for me, as it has always been my favourite club.

"In general, I think the Premier League is the best league in the world, and it would be exciting to play there. But as I said, that’s not what I’m focusing on at the moment.

"I’m doing well here in Wolfsburg, it’s a good club for me, and the Bundesliga is a great league to play in. At the moment, I’m just focusing on my performances here, and then we’ll see if I’m good enough to take the next step sometime in the future.”

Wolfsburg head coach Florian Kohfeldt said: "Jonas is the complete striker. He's adapted to the Bundesliga really well, which is great for me."

Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schafer has also highlighted Wind's technique and ability to create chances for his teammates. Schafer said: "Jonas has very good technique, finds solutions in the tightest of spaces, has a good heading game and really works for the team."
