Dahmer has been hugely popular on streaming platform Netflix, as viewers watched American Horror Story star Evan Peters act out Jeffrey Dahmer's vile and cannibalistic ways in the series.
Due to the show's success, Netflix has released Conversations With A Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes today (October 7) on the platform.
Dahmer, also known as The Cannibal of Milwaukee, was convicted of 15 murder charges in 1992 for murdering 17 Black, Latino and Asian men from 1978 to 1991, which resulted in him being sentenced to 957 years in prison.
In the Netflix series, Evan Peters was joined by Richard Jenkins as Dahmer's father Lionel, and Penelope Anne Miller as his mother Joyce.
During the killer's trial in 1992, his parents were present in the court room, however, Dahmer's younger brother was notably missing from the proceedings.
But who is Dahmer's younger brother and why did he change his name?
Here's everything you need to know:
Who is Jeffrey Dahmer's brother?
David Dahmer is the younger brother of the cannibalistic serial killer.
Lionel and Joyce's youngest son was born in December 1966 and Jeffrey had the privilege of naming his new brother.
As the years went by, the Dahmer brothers had a strained relationship and according to The Sun, Jeffrey was jealous of David and the attention he was getting, so he started to “resent” him.
When Lionel and Joyce bitterly divorced in 1978, the brothers were split up - with Jeffrey left to live with his father while David joined his mother in Wisconsin.
In the same year as the divorce, Jeffrey murdered his first victim.
Why did Jeffrey Dahmer's brother change his name?
Following the revelations of his brother's gruesome crimes, David changed his name to distance himself from the killer.
When Jeffrey was arrested in 1991, David cut all ties with his older sibling and didn’t show up to the trial or hearings.
Dahmer's dad Lionel was interviewed on Larry King in 2004 where he gave a brief update on David.
He confirmed that his youngest son has changed his name, adding that they have promised to keep him "completely secret with respect".
Where is David Dahmer now?
Very little is known about the killer's younger brother as David decided to remove himself from the narrative and spotlight completely following the court case.
However, he is thought to still be alive and is now 55-years-old.
In the same appearance on Larry King, Lionel was joined by wife and David's stepmother, Shari.
She explained in the interview that David is "very happy" and has established his own career following his graduation from the University of Cincinnati.
She also added that her step-son is married and has children with his partner.
