The Last Kingdom is back to Netflix after fans have waited for two years to see the fifth season. The last season aired in April 2020 and fans is eager to get binge-watching this new instalment which will help to explain the story of the captured Saxon.
The plot continues the story of Uhtred but it's been a while since the battle at Winchester. King Edward reigns but his ambition to unite the Saxon Kingdom faces considerable challenges.
Uhtred learns that the quest to unite England is linked to his own personal achievements. The episodes will drive the story of Uhtred as his loyalty is continually tested.

Who is in The Last Kingdom season 5 cast?
Ewan Horrocks plays Aelfweard, King Edward's son. Ewan has played young Drusus in Domina. Phia Saba is starring as Aelfwynn, the rebellious teenage royal.
Harry Gilby stars as Aethelstan, the person ensured to care for Uhtred. Patrick Robinson stars as Father Benedict, the well-travelled Christian priest.
Harry Anton will play Bresal, the mercenary who plans to make his own grandson the next king. Alongside Harry, Ryan Quarmby will star as Cynlaef, a young warrior who captures the eye of the rebellious teenager.
How many episodes are in the new series?
The series will span over 10 episodes all of which have been released on 9 March.
The synopsis reads: "Years have passed since the events of the last season, and King Edward is still forging ahead with his ambitions to unite the Saxon Kingdoms to fulfil his late father’s dream. Although a long-standing peace between Danes and Saxons now exists, that harmony is under threat. Not only by a new Danish invasion but a Saxon rebellion."
