New ITV drama Karen Pirie is an adaptation of one of author Val McDermid’s most popular novels, The Distant Echo, and it has a few major twists and turns.
While the original book was set in the seventies and 2000s, the series is set between the 1990s and 2022, reports the Radio Times.
Elsewhere, Karen Pirie, who was only introduced into the novel at the end, takes centre stage, as she does throughout the rest of McDermid’s series.
The character is played by Outlander star Lauren Lyle, and her trusty DC Jason Murray, aka The Mint, is played by Sex Education’s Chris Jenks.
The action in the series takes place across two timelines, with one in 1996, and another in 2022, which means some of the characters are played by two different actors, in order to show the different life stages.
But who else stars in the three-part ITV series, and which characters do they play?
