Who is Harlequin on The Masked Singer? Fans convinced legendary singer is behind the mask

The Masked Singer viewers are sure that a legendary singer has graced the stage on the show in the guise of Harlequin.

The crazy talent show guessing game became a cult hit when it made its debut on ITV earlier this year and series 2 has proved to be just as much of a social media sensation.

It's once again the job of celebrity panellists Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan and Davina McCall to work out who's behind the elaborate disguises.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor was revealed to be Alien after becoming the first contestant voted out and was followed a week later by Mel B as Seahorse bit the dust, before Jonathan correctly identified that Martine McCutcheon was Swan last week.

The first act in action on episode 2 was Harlequin, with the singer belting out a cover of Rihanna's Diamonds in a very Elizabeth I style costume.

And, after being totally baffled for the early stages of the song, as the celeb behind the mask got into their stride, viewers at home ears pricked up and the vocals seemed very familiar.

Many fans believed they belonged to Dreams and Rise chart-topper Gabrielle, with one tweeting: "No , the masked singer on itv now harlequin must be Gabrielle," and another reacting: "Harlequin has got to be Gabrielle! That voice is instantly recognisable!"

One of the clues in Harlequin's VT package mentioned 'breaking news' and, linking that to Gabrielle, another viewer posted: "Gabrielle sang on the soundtrack of Bridget Jones, Bridget was a reporter (Breaking news clue) #maskedsinger "

Others, including Rita Ora, guessed another legendary performer, Fast Car singer Tracey Chapman, but Harlequin's own clue about once starring as a male lead in a musical stumped everyone.
