Talented Irish woman Dervla Kirwan has had a very successful acting career to date.

As Lahinch drama Smother draws to a close this Sunday night, the family matriarch from the whodunnit series will be chatting on the Late Late Show tonight.

She will inform Ryan and viewers what to expect as the drama draws to a close.

Dervla is  well known for being the 'voice' of Marks and Spencer's food range.

Growing up in Dublin with her two older sisters, her insurance executive father and her language teacher mother, Dervla always wanted to be in acting.

Her great-granduncle was the iconic Irish leader Michael Collins.

When she was cast at 15 in the TV drama Troubles and then in the controversial adaptation of Melvyn Bragg's A Time To Dance - in which she played a teenage schoolgirl having an affair with a 54-year-old bank manager - she was asked to leave her convent school.

"The arts were very much viewed with suspicion at my school," she said.

But her rise to fame was swift.

She starred in Goodnight Sweetheart, Ballykissangel - for which she won a best actress award - and Hearts And Bones.

Is she married and does she have children?

She dated actor Stephen Tompkinson when they starred in the long-running Irish drama Ballykissangel.

The couple were together for five years and even got engaged but months before their planned wedding the relationship hit the rocks and they split in 1999.

Dervla then went out with Kiss Me Kate star Darren Boyd for two years before falling for Rupert Penry-Jones in 2001.
