David Carey will compete in his first PGA Tour start in the US today, with his girlfriend Caitlin as caddie, at the Valero Texas Open in hope of clinching the final place at the Masters.
With a tee off time at 3.30pm, in a tournament that Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Seamus Power are all skipping in preparation for Augusta the following week. Padraig Harrington will also be taking part.
Carey will secure the final slot at Augusta if he triumphs this weekend at the San Antonio Oaks course.

Carey's career has been unusual in that he left the amateur system at the age of 18 to become a professional.

Carey burst onto the scene in 2019 on the Alps Tour, and is credited with shooting the lowest round ever, a 57 on a par-68 course.
In 2022, Carey played in his first major tournament after successfully qualifying for The 150th Open at St. Andrews.

Carey is in a rich vein of from having won the pre-qualifier last week with an eight-under 64, and he went on to win the 74-man Monday qualifier and one of the four available slots in this week's PGA Tour tournament with a seven-under 65 at Fair Oaks.
