Who is Daniel Ek and what is his net worth? Spotify CEO who wants to buy Arsenal

Daniel Ek has thrown his hat into the ring as a possible owner of Arsenal as pressure mounts on the Kroenke family after the European Super League fall-out.

The Kroenke Sports Enterprises, fronted by father Stan and son Josh, have come under increasing fire after leading the Gunners into the ESL mess.

There are now calls for the American billionaire’s to sell up, and huge protests took place on Friday night outside the Emirates Stadium with calls for ‘Kroenke Out’.

Swedish businessman Ek saw it as an opportunity to put his name forward as a prospective buyer.

But who exactly is Daniel Ek and what is his net worth?

Daniel Ek is a 38-year-old entrepreneur and technologist from Stockholm, Sweden.

Once named by Billboard as the most powerful person in the music industry, Ek is the co-founder and CEO of the hugely popular music streaming service Spotify.

Interestingly, at Ek’s wedding at Lake Como in Italy in 2016, Chris Rock was asked to officiate while Bruno Mars was invited to perform, and guests included Mark Zuckerberg.

How did he make his fortune?

Ek started working at the age of just 13 when he began making websites for clients, and by the age of 18 he was managed a team of 25 once his monthly earnings reached £36,000.

Having worked in director roles for various tech companies, Ek eventually started up Spotify.

And that is where the majority of Ek’s huge net worth comes from, with his roughly 10 per cent ownership of the company making him one of the richest people in the world.

What is Daniel Ek’s net worth?

Ek is estimated to be worth around £3.1billion as a result of his huge success through Spotify.

That value could fluctuate though as Ek also makes various investments, and owns an investment company called Prima Materia.

Moreover, Spotify’s value continues to rise, meaning his shares and worth will continue to grow.

Who does he support?

Ek is in fact an Arsenal fan, it turns out, as shown by the tweet he put on Friday night.

He posted: “As a kid growing up, I’ve cheered for @Arsenal as long as I can remember.

“If KSE would like to sell Arsenal I'd be happy to throw my hat in the ring.”

So with a net worth of £3.1bn and the passion of a life-long fan, could Ek finally be the owner Arsenal have been dreaming of?
