Who is Craig Doyle, the Dublin TV host tipped to replace Phillip Schofield on This Morning

Irish TV host Craig Doyle has been tipped to replace Phillip Schofield following his dramatic exit from This Morning.

The popular news show was at the centre of controversy after Phillip, who had been presenting the show with Holly Willoughby for 19 years, quit the ITV gig. Since his leaving, numerous names have been put forward to take the reigns from the 61-year-old English presenter.

One of them is Craig Doyle who has emerged as the new 5/2 favourite to host the morning show, according to BoyleSports. Spokesperson Lawrence Lyons said: "Craig stood in for Dermot [O'Leary] on the show last week and it seemed to have sparked an interest with viewers who are now betting on him to land the gig.

"Social media lit up with praise for Doyle as he hosted alongside Alison Hammond which wouldn’t have gone unnoticed with ITV bosses.” Here is all you need to know about Craig's personal life and career over the years:

Who is Craig Doyle?

Craig Doyle is an Irish TV and radio presenter who has worked with the BBC, ITV, and RTE. Craig hails from Stillorgan in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown.

Craig did his schooling at Blackrock College and later went on to do a degree in Sociology and History at St Patrick's College in Maynooth before doing a Diploma in Broadcast Journalism at the London College of Printing.

Craig's career over the years

Craig kicked off his career in journalism on local radio with BBC Radio Suffolk before he moved to ITV to present Disney Club, a children's show in 1995 after he was headhunted at a chance meeting with a producer during a visit to Alton Towers. Craig worked for the BBC for a number of years including for BBC Sport.

In 2004, he formed his own production company called Boxer and he produced The Craig Doyle Show, an Irish travel/celebrity programme for RTE. He also produced and hosted Ireland's Richest.

Craig joined ITV Sport in 2008 as well as presented Ireland's Top Earners the same year. In 2010, he started his own chat show Tonight with Craig Doyle on RTE One. Later that year, he joined the team on ITV's Lorraine as an investigative reporter as well as The Panel on RTE. He also presented a new live chat show called The Social that returned to the screens in 2012 as Craig Doyle Live.

Personal life

Craig is 52 years old and lives in Co Wicklow with his wife, Doon Huston Doyle, and their four children. The couple, who met through friends, got married in 2007 after years of dating.

Speaking about their relationship, Craig told RTE: "I was home in Ireland just before I started on Tomorrow’s World and a mate of mine said to me ‘Doyler! Ya gotta meet this bird! I tried my heart out with her but it isn’t happening.’

"She was working in the gym part-time before she started college and I went along to the gym. I didn’t even have gym gear with me.

"I had a pair of shorts and a pair of shoes, I looked like a kn*b and I met her and I thought ‘Holy god!’ We were on our third date, the kissing date, and we were in Greystones and we had a drink and we were out walking and as I left, I shook her hand. Complete nerd.

"She looked at me like I was a real tw*t and said: ‘That was the kissing date. Why didn’t you kiss me?’ I was scared. I fancied her you see."
