Who is Ciarán Hinds? The 68-year-old star of Belfast

Belfast is set to premiere in cinemas across the UK & Ireland next week, meaning people here will get the long-awaited chance to see the film which has received critical acclaim.

As we wait for it to arrive, we're taking a deeper look at the cast of the film.

Who is Ciarán Hinds?

Ciarán Hinds' is a 68-year-old actor who was born in Northern Ireland.

He was raised in north Belfast (a few years ahead of Kenneth Branagh, and a few years ahead of when Belfast is set) and attended Holy Family Primary School and St Malachy's.

What is his background in acting?

He was an Irish dancer in his youth. After leaving secondary school, he enrolled as a law student at Queen's University, Belfast, but was persuaded to pursue acting and abandoned his studies to enrol at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He finished in 1975.

What are some of his biggest roles?

Ciarán Hinds' has had a prolific career in the acting world.

Some of his biggest roles including playing Mance Ryder in Game of Thrones , Gaius Julius Caesar in Rome , Aberforth Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 , Roy Bland in T inker Tailor Soldier Spy , John Traynor in Veronica Guerin , Colonel Zakharov in Red Sparrow , Sam Daily in The Woman in Black and Jonjo's Da in Mickybo and Me.

As well as these, he has starred in major films such as Munich, There Will Be Blood, In Bruges, Road To Perdition , and many other films.

Ciarán also lent his voice to roles in some hugely successful animated films, including voicing Grand Pabbie in Frozen and Frozen II .

The actor has also had great success in the world of theatre, and has starred in over 50 plays across five decades, most notably in London, New York and Glasgow, as well as Belfast.

As well as his recent role in Belfast , crime drama fans might also have spotted him in the Irish ganglands TV show Kin .
