Who is Benjamin Sesko? Red Bull Salzburg star linked with Newcastle United amid agent Tyneside trip

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for RB Salzburg forward Benjamin Sesko after his agent was spotted in Newcastle earlier this week. Sesko's representatives posted imagines, which have since been deleted, arriving at Newcastle Airport before grabbing a bite to eat at Gino D'Acampo's restaurant on the Quayside.

The images sent the Magpies fanbase into a frenzy as they went into overdrive to work out who he could be representing and the nature of his trip to Tyneside. RB Salzburg have not yet revealed what the future holds for the Slovenian this season.

So just who is the 19-year-old and what can Sesko bring to Newcastle United? The forward is the latest hot prospect coming off RB Salzburg's conveyor belt of talent and could join an illustrious list of names.

Sadio Mane, Erling Haaland, Patson Daka, Dominik Szobozlai and Naby Keita are just a few of the names to have pulled on the Red and White strip of the Red Bulls in recent years and gone on to make their mark in Europe. The Austrian side has built up quite the reputation for unearthing hidden gems and polishing them into ready made diamonds ahead of the next step of their career.

The 6ft4 striker has scored 12 times in 39 appearances for the Austrian outfit and is said to be Karim Adeyemi's successor following his move to Borussia Dortmund this summer. Sesko spent his youth playing for various sides in his native Slovenia before signing for Salzburg in 2019.

He spent both the 2019-20 and 20-21 season on loan with FC Liefering in the second tier of Austrian football before breaking into Salzburg's senior side last season. He's already made 13 appearances for his country, scoring twice, which is an impressive feat for someone of such a young age.

Anyone partial to the computer game Football Manager 2022 will know all about Sesko who goes on to become one of the world's best strikers in the simulation. Of course, there's plenty of real life factors that can influence his development, but the franchise has an impressive record of recognising the potential in young players, such as the aforementioned Haaland, before their rise to prominence.
