Who is Arsenal transfer target Danilo: Edu eyes Youri Tielemans alternative to cover £57m issue

Unlike the January transfer window of 2022, Arsenal and, more specifically, Edu will be very busy trying to sort out two issues that have risen, one more recently than the other.

The Gunners have had a clear transfer strategy this summer, with a mix of signings for the now and future being made in the club's long-term interests. The likes of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira, when all fit, will add a new dynamic to Mikel Arteta's first-team squad. Meanwhile, Marquinhos, in particular, is one for the future and will not be rushed as he learns his trade in the youth set-ups ahead of eventually making a first-team debut in the forthcoming future.

Until a few days ago, a need for a new wide player was the main priority for Edu and Co following Nicolas Pepe's loan exit. The latest injury needs in regards to Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey have given some food for thought with less than 48 hours to go. Now, midfielders left, right and centre are being linked to making a late switch to the Emirates Stadium. Long-term target Youri Tielemans has been available for £25million, but no one has taken a chance on the Belgian to date.

Elsewhere, the likes of Idrissa Gana Gueye, Douglas Luis and a few others on the European continent have been linked, but one name in particular, on the South American scene, looks the most likely to come to any fruition despite reports in Brazil denying such possibilities.

The Daily Mail's Sami Mokbel tweeted: 'Arsenal are working on a deal for Palmeiras midfielder Danilo ahead of tomorrow's deadline.'

Edu is seemingly looking to pull off another Marquinhos-type trick by signing a player that isn't someone who many English football fans have much knowledge about. With this in mind, football.london brings you all you need to know about the 21-year-old.

All the way back in January 2019, the defensive midfielder moved from his first club PFC Cajazerias (Brazil), to sign on loan for Palmeiras' Under 20's set up. After a few months of playing for the Serie A's youth team, he moved back to Cajazeiras.

They eventually let him go on a permanent to the Brazilian giants in 2020. Danilo has featured in 128 games for Palmeiras, including the four en route to the FIFA Club World Cup final defeat to Chelsea back in mid-February.

Palmeiras is the team that the next Neymar, in the form of Endrick, plies his trade at, and they have been known for producing some good talents in the past. However, Arsenal will be cautious in scouting a player from the same league Pablo Mari once did.

In his very youthful career to date, Palmeiras' number 28 has attained 21 goal contributions which is decent for a defensive-minded player. On top of this, he has won a total of five trophies to date with the 2022 Serie A Champions elect. Leaving for Arsenal whilst his current side are on the verge of winning their domestic leave would be a brave and bold decision.
