Who is Alex Jones' husband Charlie Thomson, when did they get married, and do they have children?

We get to see Alex Jones every evening on BBC’s The One Show, and just occasionally you'll hear her mention her husband Charlie Thomson, the man she married in December 2015.

The pair got married in a lavish New Year's Eve ceremony at Cardiff Castle.

But considering we know a lot about Ammanford-born, Aberystwyth University-educated, former S4C presenter and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Alex, most people know little about Charlie Thomson, the man who won her heart a decade ago.

Who is he and how long have they been together?

Charlie, who is originally from New Zealand, met Alex at a party in 2011. They got married on New Year's Eve in 2015 in a ceremony at Cardiff Castle.

The couple had their first son together on January 22, 2017, which Alex announced during a live call to The One Show. She said: "Well I do have some news, I have a beautiful healthy baby boy."

Named Edward Alun Burrell Thomson on his birth certificate, he's known to mum and dad as Teddy.

Two years later the couple welcomed Kit and just this summer, 2021, they added baby Annie to the Jones-Thomson clan.

Last year in an interview with WalesOnline, Alex talked about how lockdown brought the family even closer.“That has been a real positive, now Charlie can put them to bed, whereas before they were in bed when he got home from work,” Alex adds.

“I could hand them over at 9am and have time to do my work, but they are not going to be this small for long and children want their mother, so...I'm trying to do both and it is lucky that I have the option to do that.”

What does Charlie do for a living?

He's an insurance broker, so is generally well away from our TV screens and the newspaper headlines.

And that’s just how Alex likes it.

Back in 2012 she said: “It’s so refreshing to be with someone outside of the media industry,” she says. “A lot of people think it's better to be with someone who understands how it works, but this works for me.”

He’s VERY sensible

Alex has said in the past that the Kiwi is very practical and helped her not lose her head while she was a contestant on Strictly.

She said in 2012: “He’s just good at the practicalities and putting things into perspective.

“He’s so down to earth. When I was doing Strictly he couldn’t understand how or why I was finding it so difficult – he’d say ‘just dance – what’s the problem?’

“But then I’d come home late and he’d make sure I ate or he’d call me at the studio and say, ‘That’s enough training now, come home and get some sleep otherwise you’ll be useless tomorrow.’ He’s good like that and, more often than not, he’s right!”

He can cook and fix things

When the pair bought their first home a couple of years ago Alex remarked that her then hubby-to-be likes DIY and added: “What works brilliantly is I don’t cook at all and Charlie is a trained chef.”

What a lucky lady Alex is.

He's got some bad habits

The One Show host did confess that Charlie’s penchant for hoarding rivalled her furniture shopping.

She revealed: “Charlie’s bad habit is hoarding. I try and reason a few things from his grip. There’s the odd shirt that should not be seen, ever. But I rival him with my addiction to buying furniture.”
