Who is Adjoa Andoh? The Bridgerton star making Coronation waves

Adjoa Andoh has hit the headlines after calling the Buckingham Palace balcony at King Charles III’s Coronation “terribly white”.

The Bridgerton star made the comment during ITV’s live coverage of the celebrations, sparking outcry, with more than 4,000 complaints made by viewers — the most in 2023, Ofcom said.

King Charles and Queen Camilla were officially crowned on Saturday, May 6 and Andoh, best known for her role as Lady Danbury in Bridgeton, was a guest pundit during the coverage of the ceremony.

She said to presenters Tom Bradby and Julie Etchingham: “We have gone from the rich diversity of the Abbey to a terribly white balcony.”

But what do we know about Adjoa Andoh?

Born in Bristol, Adjoa Andoh grew up in Gloucestershire, after her family moved there for her dad’s job with British Aerospace. Her mother was English and worked as a teacher, and her dad had been a journalist and musician from Ghana.

She married lecturer Howard Connel in 2001, and the couple have three children; Jesse and Daisy, and Liam.
