Jeremy Hunt confirmed in his autumn statement that there will be new cost of living payments for the most vulnerable people across the UK. The chancellor announced that struggling families, people with disabilities and pensioners will be given more support as energy bills continue to rise and the cost of living crisis.
More than 8 million households in total will receive extra payments to help pay bills in 2023-24, according to the government. Those on means-tested benefits will receive a £900 cash boost, while there will also be a £300 cost of living payment for many pensioners as well as a £150 lump sum for certain people with a disability.
Each payment will be in addition to the others, if you are eligible for more than one. It hasn't been confirmed yet exactly when the cost of living payments will be made though.

This year, people on means-tested benefits got a £650 cost of living payment, which was split into two instalments. They received a £326 lump sum in the summer and the remaining £324 is being paid to eligible families this month.
The DWP has confirmed the £900 payment for people on means-tested benefits next year will again made in "more than one installment" rather than a single lump sum. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has said it will provide further detail on each of the payments and their eligibility dates soon, reports The Mirror.
Who will be eligible for the £900 cost of living payment?
Households receiving the following means-tested benefits will get the payment. Eligibility dates will apply though.
- Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income Support
- Universal Credit
- Working Tax Credit
- Child Tax Credit
Who will get the £150 disability cost of living payment in 2023-24?
Those who are getting the following non-means-tested disability benefits will be eligible. Again, qualifying dates will apply.
- Disability Living Allowance
- Personal Independence Payment
Attendance Allowance
- Constant Attendance Allowance
- Armed Forces Independence Payment
- War Pension Mobility Supplement
- Scottish Disability Benefits
Who will get the £300 pensioner cost of living payment?
The DWP has said pensioner households will receive a £300 cost of living payment, with further details to be provided soon. This year, pensioners who received the Winter Fuel Payment got the additional £300 payment.
