After an embarrassingly long 48 hours since his Chancellor and Health Secretary's resignations triggered a crisis in the Conservative Party Boris Johnson has confirmed he is going to step down as leader and therefore Prime Minster.
More than 50 MPs have resigned from government or party roles since Tuesday night. Sajid Javid and MRishi Sunak are among the bookies' favourites to replace Mr Johnson, though Penny Mordaunt is the favourite with Paddy Power. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace also has short odds, while Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is said to be among the runners and riders.
