Who did the Commanders land in the latest Mel Kiper, Todd McShay ESPN mock draft?

You know it’s close to the NFL draft when ESPN draft analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay release a dual mock draft. With the 2022 NFL draft only one week away, Kiper and McShay took turn alternating picks for a three-round mock Tuesday.

In Kiper and McShay’s dual mock draft, they make picks based on the combination of what they think the team will do and what they would do.

Which direction will the Washington Commanders go in Kiper and McShay’s mock draft?

At pick No. 11, McShay is making the pick for Washington and chooses Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton.

Man, London would have fit nicely with Washington, and Ohio State receiver Chris Olave wouldn’t be out of the question. But Hamilton’s value is too strong to pass up. Let’s get the Commanders a difference-maker on the back end of the defense and worry about receiver on Day 2.

The Commanders are big fans of Hamilton. If he slips to No. 11, there’s a good possibility Washington ends his slide, despite other needs. You aren’t drafting Hamilton to play strictly free safety; he’s a versatile defender who can line up everywhere and plays every down.

While Washington passes on a top wideout in this mock draft, will it address the need in round two?

McShay is again picking for the Commanders at No. 47 overall, and he gives them a wide receiver in Skyy Moore of Western Michigan:

Moore had a great combine, and he showed great ball skills on tape. His best trait is his ability to produce after the catch. This would give Carson Wentz another really good target in the pass game, along with Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel.

Moore is coming off a productive career at Western Michigan and had an outstanding combine. It’s not outside the realm of possibility that he could land in the first round.

Washington is without a third-round pick after the trade for quarterback Carson Wentz.
