Who Arsenal can face in Europa League last 16 draw after Man United vs Barcelona clash

The UEFA Europa League round of 16 draw will take place on Friday following the conclusion of the knockout round play-off, with Arsenal learning who their next opponents in the competition will be.

The Gunners avoided playing in the last 32 knockout play-off round by virtue of topping their group in the first half of the season and will resume their European campaign next month.

Before the World Cup break, Mikel Arteta's men won five of their six group games to finish two points above PSV Eindhoven. Finishing top of the group meant the north Londoners avoided an extra round of fixtures against one of the third-placed Champions League teams.

Whilst the focus at London Colney will remain on their first Premier League title in 19 years, a good run in the knockout stages of the Europa League will only breed confidence.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Europa League last 16 draw...

When is the draw?

The Europa League 2022/23 group stage draw will take place on Friday, February 24, 2023. It takes place in Nyon, Switzerland and the event will begin at 12pm BST (7am EST).

UEFA will provide a free live stream on their official website and BT Sport will be showing coverage, too.

How will the last 16 round work?

The eight group winners of the Europa League will be seeded for the draw, with the winners of the knockout round play-off winners being unseeded.

Arsenal will play the second leg at home. One stipulation to be aware of is clubs from the same association cannot face each other in this round, meaning the Gunners will avoid Man United if they defeat Barcelona on Thursday.

Who could Arsenal face?

The Gunners could face a number of difficult tests, depending on the outcome of the second-leg ties. The teams they could face are: Ajax/Union Berlin, Barcelona (if they beat Man Utd), Juventus/Nantes, Bayer Leverkusen/Monaco, RB Salzburg/AS Roma, Sevilla/PSV Eindhoven, Shakhtar/Rennes or Sporting CP/Midtjylland.

What are the key dates?

The round of 16 games take place next month. The first-leg of the ties, which Arsenal will be away in, is scheduled to take place on Thursday March 9 whilst the home leg will take place a week later.

The first leg will come after the Gunners' trip to Anfield to face Liverpool. Arsenal's trip to West Ham will be moved to Sunday afternoon, with a home fixture with Southampton following the home tie.

Where is the 2023 final?

The 2022/23 Europa League final will take place on 31 May 2023 at Budapest's Puskás Aréna Park.
