The Commonwealth Games are back - and this time around they're being hosted right here in the UK. The prestigious sporting event takes place from Thursday, July 28, to Monday, August 8, live from Alexander Stadium, Birmingham.
Athletes representing all 72 Commonwealth Games Federations are expected to march in the opening ceremony of Birmingham 2022 on Thursday night (July 28). Buckingham Palace announced last week that the Prince of Wales will represent the Queen at the event.
Prince Charles will read out a message from the Queen put in the Commonwealth Games Baton, which has been carried to all 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth during a 294-day journey. Once the games commence, more than 5,000 athletes from across the Commonwealth will compete in 19 sports and eight para-sports.
