Who are the BAFTA TV Awards 2022 presenters and who is performing during the show?

The BAFTA TV Awards, which highlights the best of the television calendar, kicks off tonight and its red carpet event sounds just as thrilling.

The award’s ceremony will also feature the BAFTA fellowship, which recognises contribution to film, television or games in their career, and will be awarded to Sir Billy Connolly this year.

Connolly, who’s been awarded three BAFTA awards previously, can't make it to the show due to health reasons. The comedian was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2013 and therefore had to stop performing but a recorded acceptance speech will be shown to audiences tonight.

Here’s everything else we know about tonight’s event.

Who are the BAFTA TV Awards 2022 presenters?

The BAFTA Awards ceremony itself will be hosted by comedian, actor and writer Richard Ayoade. The red carpet event will be hosted by TV and Radio presenter Vick Hope and TV presenter Zeze Millz.

The red carpet event will be streamed on BAFTA’s Facebook and Youtube channels, with Sam Thompson will take over BAFTA’s Instagram account in order to bring audiences closer to the action. The live coverage of the event will begin from 2pm.

The BAFTA TV Awards turned 67 this year, prior to 1998 the ceremony was presented at the same time as the Bafta Film awards in a joint ceremony. The BAFTA TV Awards have 27 award categories this year and for 26 of these categories, the winner of each award is chosen by a jury of nine academy members.

Who is performing during the show?

George Ezra will perform his new single ‘Green Green Grass’ at the exclusive red carpet show. Ezra commented on his upcoming appearance “I am looking forward to some fun on the BAFTA red-carpet next Sunday with my band. It will be an honour to perform at the biggest night on TV and amongst some incredibly talented stars!”

The Executive Director of Awards and Content Emma Baehr also shared her thoughts on tonight’s ceremony: “We’re delighted to be returning to a full in-person ceremony back at the Royal Festival Hall on 8 May and are so excited that the wonderfully talented George Ezra will be kicking off the evening with a live performance of his brand new single live from the red carpet.

“We are also thrilled to have Vick Hope and Zeze Millz as our red carpet hosts as well as Sam Thompson leading the charge as our dedicated social media host. Together, they will bring viewers all of the excitement of the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards directly to their homes.” she added.

When are the BAFTA TV Awards 2022?

Virgin Media’s BAFTA TV Awards will air on Sunday May 8 at 6pm on BBC One. It’s A Sin could be a big winner as it leads the way with 11 nominations, other shows that stand a chance of winning big is Sex Education and Strictly Come Dancing.

Squid Game, which reached 111 million fans within 28 days of its release making it Netflix’s biggest ever show, is nominated in the International category. Luckily the stakes aren’t deadly if Squid Game doesn't win this one.

The Awards will be presented by different famous faces throughout the night including Olivia Colman, Strictly pro Giovanni Pernice and his 2021 partner Rose Ayling-Ellis, Sex Education's Aimee Lou Wood, Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan and presenter Lorraine Kelly as well as Heartstopper's breakout star Joe Locke.
