A high-ranking leader in the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang who is already serving two life sentences now faces a third life sentence after allegedly attempting to stab two state prison guards.

Prosecutors in Sacramento County have charged Ronald Dean Yandell, 62, with attempted murder over a November 2023 incident in which he allegedly pulled a homemade knife on two correctional officers during a medical transport, according to court records obtained by Mercury News.

Yandell was sentenced to life in state prison in 2004 for fatally shooting two men. Last year, he was sentenced to life in federal prison for a conviction on racketeering and murder charges following accusations of running contraband smuggling operations and ordering murders within the California state prison system.

Despite the federal charges against Yandell, he has not yet been transferred to federal prison and is currently placed in administrative segregation at Folsom State Prison.

"I'm still standing, and my life hasn't changed," Yandell told a judge at his last sentencing.

His latest arraignment is set for April 25, adding yet another legal battle to his already inescapable prison term.
