White Moose Cafe owner shares cheeky notice issued to hotel guests

The owner of the White Moose Cafe and its upstairs hotel has shared his no-nonsense instructions for guests on Facebook.

Paul Stenson, who runs the budget Charleville Lodge on the North Circular Road, cheekily reminded guests that the service provided would be “reflected in the amount of money you’re paying us” and boldly said they hold limited rights as low paying guests. He also humorously warned visitors that staff would not put up with the demands of high-maintenance customers.

Paul wrote: “Please keep complaints to a minimum. Our staff are overworked and underpaid as it is and they don’t need you going to reception to complain unnecessarily.”

“Rudeness will not be tolerated. Our staff are trained in Mixed Martial Arts and they will use their skills against you without hesitation.”

The Facebook post also referenced a number of hotel room items that disappear from the Charleville Lodge on occasion. Items such as bath towels, TV remotes and even Bibles were listed with prices beside them, alongside a warning that missing items could end up costing the customer.

He wrote: “We have recently noticed that a number of these items have been ‘disappearing’ from our hotel rooms. We can only assume that, by taking these items, you are willing to purchase them from us and are authorising us to charge your credit card for these purchases.”

The hotel owner is well known for his sarcastic posts on social media, which often call out customers for so-called ‘woke’ behaviour. A customer who was caught pocketing The White Moose Café’s tip jar was also shamed by the business owner, who uploaded CCTV footage of the incident to social media.

He also sparked controversy last summer after he confirmed that the White Moose Café would not require customers to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination. The move fuelled debate around the issue of ‘vaccine passports’, which were mandatory under law at the time for indoor dining.
